Auditions for Failure: A Love Story - Directed by Renee van Nifterik

Written by Philip Dawkins

Performances: September 20-October 6, 2019

By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead -- expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. A whimsical group of actors follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June, and Gerty as they live out their lives above the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual's successes or failures.

CHARACTERS:

Nelly Fail - The youngest. Sweet and beautiful. Age range 18-25
Jenny June Fail - The middlest. Bold and athletic. Age range 20-30
Gertrude Fail - The eldest. Gentle and wise. Age range 25-35
John N. Fail - The brother. Quiet and aloof. Age range 20+
Mortimer Mortimer - The lover. Handsome and romantic. Age range 20-35
PLUS - Any number of actors who will take on a multitude of characters, animals, and objects. Ages 16+

ABOUT THE REHEARSAL PROCESS:
Actors will be cast without regard to racial or ethnic background. I am looking for actors who want to have fun and explore this magical play. We will utilize the movement practices of Michael Chekhov, Rudolf Laban, as well as Viewpoints in our work. I need actors who are committed and will attend rehearsals regularly. This play is my Master's Thesis Creative Project, therefore, if you have a lot of conflicts, please do not audition.

AUDITION PROCESS:
Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script.
